Hire a Webshop Manager | Hans van Leeuwen
Hire a freelance webshop manager for day-to-day operations: stock, listings, content, orders and channels on Amazon and Bol.com. Cancellable monthly.
I'm Hans van Leeuwen, a freelance e-commerce and marketplace manager based in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. You hire me as a webshop manager when the shop has to keep running without taking on a permanent hire: orders, stock, listings, product data, pricing and the sales channels around them. At Alpine Hearing Protection that was my daily work on Amazon and Bol.com for four years, with out-of-stock below 2% after introducing demand forecasting. At Connect Car Parts I now run one catalogue across eBay, Amazon and Bol.com. You work in your own accounts and tools, cancellable monthly.
Management starts with an inventory of the daily work: which tasks are waiting, which channels exist, where the product data comes from, how stock is tracked and who is responsible for what. That produces a task list with a fixed frequency, daily, weekly and monthly, with an owner per task. Whatever nobody was doing is in there from day one.
After that I do the work, inside your own accounts and tools. A normal week is: orders and returns reviewed, stock alerts and reorder suggestions, listings and product data updated, pricing and Buy Box checked, campaigns adjusted and the feed to every channel kept correct. You get a short written weekly update with what happened, what stands out and what happens next week.
Anything that repeats twice gets documented or automated, with a human on the sensitive buttons. That way you can take the management back in-house the moment you hire someone permanent, or scale the engagement down to one day a week. If the need grows the other way, towards channel P&L, budget and team leadership, that is interim e-commerce management rather than day-to-day management. I will say so, instead of turning it into more days of management.

Four false errors in the daily check
At Connect Car Parts I walk through the Bol.com pipeline after every run. Six products looked missing, four simply existed: a slash inside a SKU has to go into the URL as %2F. Without that check, 41 rows would quietly have gone wrong. And marked ready means prepared, not yet sold. Read the case update
Ad budget paying for a weak listing
An outdoor brand with around 120 SKUs spent €14,000 a month on Sponsored Products and saw 23% of orders come back. The leak sat in the product page, not the campaign. After the rebuild: 12.7% conversion against 8.1% before, returns down to 14% and €3,000 a month less in advertising cost. Read the case
No green light without evidence
Roughly half the success messages in my own automation stack turned out not to rest on a real action. Hence my rule for daily management: a task is done when the change can be found in the channel itself, not when a tool reports that it worked. Read why reporting needs evidence
What does outsourcing this work cost?
Day rate, project fee or a fixed monthly amount: the article works through which model suits which kind of work, what fits inside a working day and at which point hiring someone permanently simply costs you less. Read how the rates are built up
Frequently asked questions about hiring a webshop manager
What does a webshop manager do?
Keeps the webshop running day to day: orders and returns, stock and availability, listings and product content, pricing, the feeds to your sales channels and the reporting on all of it. It is hands-on work with its own responsibility: nobody has to chase the tasks, while strategy and budget stay with you.
How is this different from an interim e-commerce manager?
A webshop manager executes the daily operation. An interim e-commerce manager takes charge of channel P&L, budget, agencies and team. If you need the second, read the interim e-commerce management page. In practice it often starts with day-to-day management and grows into that.
How many days a week do you need?
For a webshop that already runs, two days a week is usually enough. With several marketplaces and a large catalogue it becomes three. After the inventory you know exactly, and you can adjust it monthly.
Can you cover for someone who left?
Yes, that is the most common reason to hire me. I take over the tasks of your departed e-commerce employee or account manager so nothing is left waiting, and hand the work over documented to your new hire.
Do you work in our own accounts?
Yes. I work in your webshop, your Seller Central, your Bol.com account and your tools. You keep all access, data and working documents, including after the engagement ends.
Which platforms and tools do you know?
Amazon Seller and Vendor Central for NL, DE and the other EU marketplaces, Bol.com and eBay, and webshops on Magento or WooCommerce. The layer underneath: Channable for the feeds, n8n for automation, Helium10 for search data, GA4 and Power BI for the numbers.
